Questions about the Einbürgerungstest

EBTest is a free, open-source practice app for the Einbürgerungstest and Leben in Deutschland. Study 300 general questions and 10 questions for each of Germany’s 16 federal states: 460 questions in total, or 310 for your selected state. Use German, English, Russian, Turkish or Arabic, save questions, review mistakes and take timed mock exams.

Is EBTest free to use?

Yes. The web app is free, has no ads and requires no account. You can study questions, save favorites, review mistakes and track your progress in your browser.

How many questions are in the Einbürgerungstest?

The official test has 33 questions: 30 general questions and 3 about your federal state. You have 60 minutes and need at least 17 correct answers to pass the Einbürgerungstest.

Why are there 460 questions, but only 310 for my state?

The app contains 300 general questions plus 10 for each of the 16 federal states. Selecting your state gives you a study set of 310 questions. A mock exam uses 33 questions from that set.

Can I study in my own language?

EBTest supports German, English, Russian, Turkish and Arabic. Translations and explanations help with studying; the official test is in German. Practice the German wording before test day.

Can I prepare for Leben in Deutschland here too?

Yes. Leben in Deutschland and the Einbürgerungstest use the same BAMF question catalogue. Leben in Deutschland is passed with 15 of 33 correct answers; the knowledge requirement for naturalization requires at least 17. EBTest mock exams use the 17-answer threshold.

Is EBTest an official BAMF service?

No. EBTest is an independent, open-source learning project. To register for the official test, use the BAMF information linked below. Practice results in EBTest are not official certificates.

Where the questions come from

The app’s question dataset is based on the BAMF catalogue dated 7 May 2025. Translations and explanations are learning aids from this independent project, not official BAMF material. Check the BAMF sources for current test information. EBTest does not administer the official test or issue certificates.
